You can find surprising messages where you least expect them. Yesterday I decided to re-watch the movie Hancock. I liked it the first time I saw it but the second time I heard some things I had missed. It just goes to show that you see what you want to see when you see it. (Was that cryptic enough for you?) Here is part one of the the two messages I received from this movie.
If you haven't seen Hancock, it's about this lonely, down and out superhero who drinks too much and causes major destruction when he stops crime. When he saves the life of a public relations guy, his life changes for the better. The PR guy sees the potential in Hancock and tries to convince him to see his gift. He tells Hancock “You have a calling, Hancock, you're a hero. You are going to be miserable until you accept that.”
I realized then, that's what a lot us do. Maybe not as drunk and destructive as John Hancock but close. We stumble around wondering why we act so wounded and don't live up to our potential. We form addictions, make poor choices, or act just plain miserable.
Have you realized yet that, like the character Hancock, what you are running from is your greatness, not your weaknesses? Hiding your gifts only delays the inevitable or shortens your life. Choose the inevitable.
In the next blog post I'll write about the second important message I received. Creating your calling's symbol.
This is a commencement speech given by Steve Jobs of Apple at the 2005 Stanford graduation. It perfectly explains if you connect your past you can find your future business or career.

What is a Divine Calling Lifestyle Business? It's a business created by spiritual-minded people who’s goal is to live a certain lifestyle. They want their business to provide the spiritual, financial and personal foundation for that lifestyle.
There are many factors in creating such a business, but here is simple step-by-step plan for creating one:
First Step is to make a list of what you love to do.
Make a list of all your skills, talents, and passions, hobbies.
Examples: Organizing, building, sports, reading, cooking, etc.
Second Step is to decide where do you want to work.
Outdoors
At home
In an Office
In a store
Traveling the world.
Third Step is figuring out how much money you need & want to make.
What is your cost of living, the minimum you need to make?
What is your dream life style?
How much money you would like to earn dictates the resources and people you will need.
Fourth Step is deciding whom do you want to work with.
What type of person do you wish to work with?
Do you see yourself with a partner?
Do you wish to work alone?
Fifth step is to figure out what business hours you want to work.
Only our Hours a day?
Only on weekends?
Only 9 months of the year?
Now it's time to research fields that match what you want and if you need to design a business that matches your desires to create a lifestyle business.
There are a few internal factors that create a drive to pursue a calling. A Divine Calling comes from our soul’s desire to use all that we're given in order to help others. It's also a way to reach out and love and be loved through our work. We can fulfill a longing to make a difference in the world. Pursuing our calling is a way to share the authentic part of us. We also fulfill our need to leave a legacy for our loved ones and it’s a way to provide meaning to our lives.
